Review:

Leaves is a band from Barcelona, Spain. The band was born in 2000 under the name of The Stygian Lake. During February 2001, they recorded their first mini CD, 'XTC', which was well received by the public. Various line up changes along the way delayed things a bit, but with a name change to Leaves, and the arrival of new singer Raquel, the band worked on the idea of recording a full length album, which becomes this little opus. And what about this little gem? Well the album starts with the title track, a melodic number that instantly reminded me vocally of Anneke Van Giersbergen era The Gathering. And those influences show up throughout this record. But having said that, 'While The Light Continues Spinning' is nonetheless a very good recording with some awesome music on offer - imagine a mix of metal, gothic and trip rock!. Great musicianship throughout. No overall faves here as it is all damn fine stuff. The album comes as a digipack, while this band can be found at www.myspace.com/leavesbcn. This is worth purchasing to my ears for fans of our beloved genre. A powerful but delicate sound - good stuff! 8.5/10 (Reviewed by Dave)
