Review:

If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you find them, maybe you can hire The A-Team!

The A-team is one of those show that I grew up watching and loving. While today's audiences might not see the humour and bravado that the show possesses, it still holds up today as an entertaining show that, unfortunately, got stuck in a formula that worked yet got really, really repetitive by the show's 5th and final season.

Season 3 is the premiere season of the five. This is where the show finally hits its stride with numerous great episodes and the formula is perfected because of the strong writing each episode had. What really makes this season click, though, is the chemistry that the entire cast shares. While the cast did gel right away back in season 1, there's now a sense of comfort and comradery that the cast shares. Principle among them is the vibrant and hilarious chemistry between Murdock (Dwight Schultz) and B.A. Baracus (Mr. T) who trade barbs and anecdotes in each episodes. All the while, George Peppard anchors the cast as their leader and resident plan maker. It's a great season with awesome episodes like the season kick off "Bullets and Bikinis" and one of my personal favorites "Timber", in which the team go logging for bad guy's.

The only downfall is that the repetition of the show does start to show. The A-team kicks butt, then get beat back and then come up with a sweet plan with even sweeter music by Mike Post and then they rule the day. It works for 4 seasons and is best here, in this season but the cracks are starting to show.

But still, you can’t beat awesome exchanges like this (from episode 19, “Moving Targets” ***

Face: “Knock Knock.” Murdock: “Who’s there?” B.A.: “Us” Murdock: “Us Who?” B.A.: “Us who going to know you out, fool!” ***

I love it when a DVD set comes together. ***

Image and Sound:

The DVD set employs the usual broadcast quality that 80s DVD sets seem to constantly receive but the quality is a noticeable set up from seasons 1 and 2. The sound has a few cracks in it and sounds a bit hollow and mono at times but it does the job and the explosions and booming theme song sound great on any quality setup.

Special Features: Season 2 had a bonus episode from Knight Rider, which, sadly, is a step up from the lack of extras that are found on this set. There's nothing here. At all. My hope is that Universal is planning to drop all the extras onto the last season set because of the fact that it was only a half season and they'll want to pump up the box contents. Even a montage of all the times they have to knock out B.A. to fly would be appreciated. Final Word: A-Team: Season 3 is a quality set for fans of the show. The episodes are all really fun and the formula hasn't gotten stale yet. The lack of extras means that DVD collectors get the shaft yet again but maybe Universal will fix that with Season 5 (don't hold your breath for Season 4 to get anything other than a Magnum P.I. episode or the like).

Final Words:

Go buy this season now, need I say more.
