The Review:

"DVDivas, see the man at the corner looking for a quality release of 'Adam 12' discs. Approach with caution as he's irate that almost every copy skips. Whatever you do don't say 'freeze' to him." Doesn’t anyone at Universal care about the quality of their product? I’m amazed at the range of releases I’ve seen from Universal in terms of quality. Some of their series they’ve done a good job with (“Earth 2” and “Sliders: Season One & Two” despite the drawbacks in the packaging for each show) while others have all the quality control of Good Times Home Video. Unfortunately, “Adam 12” belongs in the latter category and I can’t recommend this release for that reason. I like the show. I liked it as a kid. Despite the dramatic limitations of the original series, the show was well made for its time with appealing performances from the regular cast of Kent McCord and Martin Milner and, unlike the much drier “Dragnet”, “Adam 12” had a humorous banter between McCord and Milner. ---

Image and Sound: Universal has packed all 26 first season ˝ hour episodes on two dual sided, dual layered DVDs. The good news is that the picture quality is pretty decent considering the age of the series. Blacks are solid and although there’s occasional blockiness and digital artifacts crop up the image quality is pleasing on the whole. Fine detail is decent although there occasional bits here and there with the image is very soft. Colors are bright and vivid and sound is decent as well with dialog coming across crisp and clear. The bad news is that there's still a problem with episodes freezing and skipping. This isn’t the first time this has been a problem with a Universal release. This has cropped up consistently throughout many Universal releases (much more so than say Sony or Warner releases). I’m not sure why Universal seems to have as much of a problem with quaity control compared to some other studios but it continues to be an issue even with this relatively simple release. On the other hand, “Gladiator” (a Dreamworks-Universal release) has absolutely no problems at all. I don’t have any hard and fast answers. ---
The Extras:

No extras from Universal. I’m a bit disappointed that they’ve elected to release these “Classics” without a classy presentation. Both Kent McCord and Martin Milner are alive and well and would probably have consented to sitting still for a short featurette on the making of the show. We do get an episode summary for each episode on the DVD. ---

Commentary: No commentary.
Final Words: A solid transfer from Universal that probably would have benefited from better quality control, "Adam 12" certainly deserves some extras and featurettes. It's clear why Universal doesn't provide these extras; it would cost too much money and the return in sales would probably be minimal. On the other hand, it would be wise for Universal to do right by their customers and their fans. I'd recommend renting to see if you have any problems and then buying if you want to revisit the world of "Adam 12".
