Review:

Alf, the alien from Melmac who came to live with the Tanner family and loves to try to eat the family cat comes home with the third season, now on DVD. ***

As a kid, I loved the Alf series and the nostalgia is strong in this one. While I haven't had a chance to check out the other season sets, yet, I'm thinking I'm definitely going to try to pick up the entire series if I can find the DVD's at a discounted price. Alf is a series that sort of stands the test of time. While it's a series that isn't going to win itself new fans with a DVD release, old fans of the series have a lot to be thankful for. ***

The fact is, if you laughed the first time, you're going to keep laughing. This is a funny series, in its time and who can't help but love Alf? He's the alien we wish we all could be. Supported by the hilarious Max Wright as Willie - "Hey Willie!" as Alf always says - the series will rekindle your fond memories of a simpler television landscape. ***

Season 3 continues the high jinx with memorable episodes like Alf accidentally going along with Lynn on a date or Alf writing a silent film with Jake starring the Tanners.

Image and Sound:

Alf continues to be shot on video, like the previous seasons and looks okay for what it is. I wouldn't rave about the video but it's passable. Like the previous seasons, fans are going to be mad that these are the syndicated episodes. Guess what? I don't care. There's only a minute or two cut out of the episodes and frankly, it firms up the jokes and gets a show like this running at a better pace. Be thankful Alf is on DVD at all. ***

Special Features: Alf is on the menu screens to help you find what you are looking for. It's a nice touch but that's all your going to find on the special feature list. ***

Final Words:

Hardcore fans of Alf, all 20 of them, are going to want to continue their boycott of the show, considering these are the syndicated episodes in season 3. Regular fans, like myself, are going to enjoy the show on DVD just because it has been such a long time since the show was aired. It's a worthy investment for fans if you don't mind the trimmed episodes.
