"BET Hip Hop Awards" 2007
Reviewer:
Taylor Carlson
Studio: Paramount
Genre: Music
Release:
3/18/08
Special Features: TI rehearsal footage
Review:

Starting in 2006, BET began doing its now-annual Hip Hop Awards show to honor the biggest and the best names in the world of rap music. The 2007 show is the second awards show so far, in what looks like it will become a top-rated event on BET for years to come. ***

The Hip Hop Awards follows the format of most basic music awards shows. Numerous performers are nominated for various awards (best album, best video, etc.). and often between the acts, performers are featured. ***

Performers at the 2007 ceremony include Nelly, Ludacris, Busta Rhymes, and Wyclef Jean. Award recipients include TI, Chamillionaire, Jay Z, Yung Joc, and Young Dro. ***

Paramount has now released the complete 2007 show on DVD. The presentation is shown in its roughly 90-minute commercial-free entirety, with all award presentations and musical acts intact. Representing the finest that rap music has to offer, if you're a fan of the genre you'd be wise to add this to your music DVD collection. ---

Image And Sound:

Let's be realistic - if you're a rap fan, you're probably mostly buying this DVD for the performances. You'll they both look and sound great on this DVD. Audio and visual quality here are, for the most part, outstanding. The DVD format does this show justice.

Special Features:

There is only one bonus feature included on the disc, which is rehearsal footage from TI, before the show. I was hoping the DVD would have extra interviews and behind-the-scenes footage, and rehearsals from other acts. Lack of bonus material aside, this single featurette is well worth checking out, especially for TI fans.

Final Words:

If you want the finest in hip hop and rap gathered on one disc, you've come to the right place. The performances here are fantastic - any fan of the genre will love them. And even if you caught the show on TV or videotaped it, the DVD's audio/visual quality and the TI rehearsal footage extra more than make this version worth investing in.
