Review:

In its prime, Beverly Hills 90210 was one of the finest shows FOX had going for them. Following a group of teens through their high school and college years, the show was a hit for the duration of its run, due in no small part to excellent characters and performances. The show ran from 1990-2000, and spawned the also-successful spin-off, Melrose Place. ***

The 8-disc set includes every episode from the show's fourth season. Episodes included are as follows: So Long Farewell Auf Wiedersehen Goodbye, The Girl From New York City, The Little Fish, Greek To Me, Radio Daze, Strangers In The Night, Moving Targets, Twenty Years Ago Today, Otherwise Engaged, And Did It My Way, Take Back The Night, Radar Love, Emily, Windstruck, Somewhere In The World It's Christmas, Crunch Time, Thicker Than Water, Heartbreaker, The Labors Of Love, Scared Very Straight, Addicted To Love, Change Partners, A Pig Is A Boy Is A Dog, Cuffs And Links, The Time Has Come Today, Blind Spot, Divas, Acting Out, Truth And Consequences, Vital Signs, and Mr. Walsh Goes To Washington. ***

Over the course of its run, Beverly Hills 90210 always stayed interesting. The characters and the actors who portray them are, to say the least, nothing short of excellent. The performances by these actors are what truly brings the series to life. And no place is that truer than in this season - one of the finest the show ever had. Amongst the faces you'll see on the show are Shannen Doherty, Jason Priestley, Luke Perry, Jennie Garth, and Tori Spelling. ***

The show definitely stands the test of time, and it's no surprise it spawned countless imitators. If you were a fan of the show, there's no reason not to get the DVD sets. ---

Image And Sound:

Sadly, this isn't a great transfer. The show looks like it hasn't been touched up at all since it first aired and there is quite a bit of softness and grain - it looks particularly atrocious during darker scenes. Sound quality holds up slightly better, but it's clear that it didn't get any revamping either. ---

Special Features:

Surprisingly, quite a few features are included here - it's unusual for most TV shows on DVD to have any extras at all this late in the game…. But I'm grateful. First and foremost, you get the obligatory 7 Minutes in Heaven “key moments” featurette the other season sets have, as well as the Everything You Need To Know retrospective for the season. Featurettes like these have been commonplace on the 90210 DVD releases of the past, and they're a wecome addition here. Essentially, they will fill you in on the major events of the season without you having to sit through each and every episode - a nice feature if you've already seen all the episodes and just want to recap and refamiliarize yourself with the season's events. As far as the remaining featurettes go, we get segments called A Look Back With Charles Rosin, The Loves Of Season Four, and Beverly Hills Moms. While not as involving or substance-laden as the aforementioned "flasback" featuetes, they're still good to check out. In particular, the Charles Rosin extra is nice, giving a cast/crew perspective of what went on behind the scenes and during production of the show in season four. These extras are all worth watching at least once if you're a fan.

Final Words:

Are you a 90210 fan? If so, definitely pick this set up. It's one of the best seasons the show ever had, and the bonus features included here make the package all the more worthwhile.
