Review:

Trying to ride the Halloween season and the popularity of Exorcism of Emily Rose this movie is a complete low budget rip off of The Exorcism of Emily Rose. The cover box was cool so I had high hopes but after the opening scene all hope was lost. The movie lead off with Isabelle, the possessed 18 year old covered in blood by the dead rabbit that she just had taken a bite of. I don't know why and the movie never says. After being led back to the house, it is the stable hand who just happened to be an ex-priest who diagnoses Isabelle with the possession.****

Feeding on the weaknesses of those out to destroy her, the demon inside Isabelle shows disturbing images of her father molesting her and her mother sleeping with the next door neighbor. The other priest (Jacob) used to date the older sister Claire but left her after he beat her. Turns out that Jacob also slept with Isabelle who is in love with the other stable hand. Sounds like a soap opera right? Let us not forget also the almost drug overdose of Isabelle's mom and later down the road a murder/suicide. All of this really has nothing to do with anything except that it shows that the demon has the power. All of these relationships are being hashed out while Isabelle is tied to her bed waiting to be saved. ****

Complete with holy water, a wooden cross and the deep, scary latin voice this movie is like any other with an exorcism. There are actually two twists toward the end that almost make it worth sticking around for. But I have to emphasize the almost, don't bother unless there are no Emily Rose's to watch.

Image and Sound: The quality of this film is terrible. It is obviously low budget and the digital resolution is terrible. The makeup is overdone and Isabelle ends up looking like a ghost with black circles under her eyes instead of a possessed girl. The soundtrack is incredibly overdramatic for how terrible the film is. It is hard to take anything seriously that sounds like the soundtrack of jaws whenever the sheriff shows up in the scene.

Special Features:

The making of featurette had the cast and crew and a handheld video camera. You could hear the operator of the camera talking to whomever she was filming at the moment. It showed some of the make-up work and some of the on-site locations. What I did find interesting was that they actually sought out the help of a Catholic Bishop. So as cheesy as it may appear, at least it is biblically correct. There are some previews of upcoming movies and this movie as well. There is also an audio commentary talking about the actors and the roles that they played. It was kind of funny to see the church towards the beginning appears to be old and alone is actually in downtown Reno with two giant skyscrapers behind it. The director spoke some of his relationship with the bishop who was overseeing and he turned out to be an invaluable source of Latin. The press kit came with a "Do it Yourself" exorcism kit so keep you fingers crosses for all of you at home shoppers for some Holy water, a wooden cross, and a purple sash so you can become a priest.

Final Words:

If you saw the Exorcism of Emily Rose then you have seen all you need to. This low budget knock off had little special effects and for me, no scary moments. I found myself on the verge of laughing rather then bring terrified.
