I’m a firm believer that a bit of controversy is good
for the soul. So when the TV series “The Book of Daniel”
first aired I was all for it succeeding; where else on TV
could one see a series about a pill popping pastor that
talked to Jesus and deal with the morally complex world
we live in without falling into the dogmatic traps of the
conservative Christian world or the secular scientific one
that are as far from each other in terms of values as the
Arctic is from the Antarctic? The series featured the appealing
Adian Quinn in the lead role playing a very flawed but fascinating
church leader. The show also had a solid supporting cast
including Dylan Baker, Ellen Burstyn and others. I was also
not surprised when the show didn’t survive more than a cou
ple of episodes before it was pulled; we live in a world
where profit (as opposed to THE Prophet), materialism and
ratings dominate our entertainment world and listens to
the small minded folks that might eliminate a different
point-of-view precisely because it is different. If you
raise your children right, instill in them the right values
and provide them with the right moral compass you don’t
need to worry about TV corrupting their souls. ---
Image & Sound: “Daniel” looks great which isn’t surprise
as it is a recent TV show. We get all eight produced episodes
of the series (which goes to show you how quickly the plug
was pulled. Most series have at least 10 produced before
they are cancelled). Audio sounds so clear that if Christ
gave the Sermon on the Mount you would be able to make out
every whisper and cough.
