He's the lovable novelist this cop loves to hate. ***
Castle premiered on ABC last spring with Dancing with the
Stars as its lead-in. Despite tough competition from Horatio
Caine and his "Sunglasses of Justice" on CSI: Miami, the
series found an audience and got renewed for a full season,
which premieres Sept 21. ***
Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion) is a dashing, playboy-like
bestselling author of the Derrick Storm series in the crime
genre; he's also a single father to teenage daughter Alexis
(Molly C. Quinn), who's more mature than he is, and has
a free-spirited mother (Susan Sullivan) who lives with him.
When a murder is based one of his novels, NYPD detective
Kate Beckett (Stana Katic) enlists Castle to help her. Taken
by the beautiful yet tough cop, Castle found his inspiration,
and calls in his friend the Mayor to remain with the NYPD
as a consultant for "research" of his next series entitled
Nikki Heat. With Castle and Beckett, they prove that the
pen AND the gun is mightier than the sword. ***
Castle is a throwback to The Rockford Files, Remington
Steele, and Moonlighting: light-hearted, character-driven
storylines mixed with humor, suspense, and romantic tension
between its two charming and sexy leads. Though it's hard
for me to catch this show due to the fact that my boy David
Caruso has been ruling Monday at 10pm over the last seven
years, Castle is still the next best choice than The Jay
Leno Show. Hopefully, ABC will reair Castle on Saturday
nights like they've been recently doing several weeks ago
in order to attract more viewers. ***
