Review: |
Yikes! Having sex can be nothing
more than a 9 to 5 job for a lot of men. Nothing like soft
core porn to get your attention late at night HBO’s “Real
Sex” has garnered a lot of negative attention and raised a
lot of men to attention whenever it’s aired. “Cathouse”, like
that series, has real sexual encounters and gets about as
explicit as cable can be without a rating and without being
called hardcore porn. What matters here, though, is that this
is all real stuff. We get a peak at a 19 year old’s first
time with the girls at a brothel but, more importantly, we
actually get interviews with these gals telling you about
why they do what they do. Some consider themselves sex therapists
while others make other claims. Either way the oldest profession
in the world continues to get loving care from HBO. While
none of the sex is as explicit as an X-rated movie, it’s enough
to get your attention. So you’ll geta bit of sex, nudity and
lots of talking at the Bunny Ranch Brothel. ---

and Sound: |
“Cathouse”
looks very good. The show looks like it might be shot on digital
video to me. The flesh tones look natural and the colors practically
vibrate off the screen. The stereo soundtrack doesn’t make good
use of the format but that’s not really what it’s there for.

Extras: |
We get
outtakes from interviews with owner Dennis Hof. We find out
that Air Force Amy has “done a small city”. I don’t know if
I’d want to know that if I was there.

Words: |
A documentary
that titillates without getting as explicit as many porn shows
(or even “Real Sex”), “Cathouse” may get a rise out of you either
way you end up feeling about it. |
