This is an epic album that has a
lot of early Dream Theatre/Symphony X influence. So what?
If you do a great album that pays tribute to your musical
likes I have no problem with that. So set that aside and take
this album for what it is. A prog-metal masterpiece. ****
The first song kicks off with a
heavy keyboard intro. that breaks into a very metallish guitar
structure that blends well with the overall feel of the song.
This long opus sets the stage for what is to come. "Alive"
starts a little mellower and reminded me of Fates Warnings,
A Pale Fire. They don't stay mellow long though and this song
shows the structure of many of the songs. They tend toward
the intro., verse, chorus, verse, structure of songs. Their
is the occasional bridge and it's chock full of long korg/roland
led musical interludes. ****
Other highlights are, "Biosfear",
a technical no vocal piece where the guitar/keyboard interplay
seems to vie for who has control. "Silence From The Angels
Above"delves into an almost Queensrycheian, Silent Lucidity,
feel. "Why I Am Here" has one of the heavier guitar
lines on the album and "The Prophecy" manages to
slip in a Kansas sound near the end of the song. ****
I really like this album, and hear
some Lamb Lies Down On Broadway sounds along with Rush like
rhythms throughout. Overall this is not just a prog/metal
clone of all the aforementioned bands but a great amalgamation
of classic sounds with a Circus Maximus spin. Give it an honest
try and let yourself be taken for a great ride.
