Since its debut on TNT in the summer of 2005, The Closer
has become the highest-rated series in cable history. Following
in the footsteps of Prime Suspect with Helen Mirren, Kyra
Sedgewick has proven that she's more than Mrs. Kevin Bacon
in the show that have pave the way for Saving Grace and
Damages, where women are in charge now. As Deputy Chief
Brenda Leigh Johnson, she leads an elite squad that tackles
the toughest cases in the City of Angels while in the process
winning their respect, loyalty, and trust. ***
All 15 episodes of season four is available here, as
the team investigates the murder of an ex-convict at a halfway
house; Brenda seeking justice against the son of a sheriff
(Daniel Baldwin) for a teenage girl -- a rape victim due
to the result of "cherry picking"; Lt. Provenza (G.W. Bailey,
Police Academy) going undercover to nab a woman attempting
to murder her husband -- but lose the evidence to nail her,
and must get it back before she becomes free; what seems
to be a missing case of a 13-year-old ends up being more
complicated -- and shocking -- when the team is called in
to investigate, and Brenda must nail the man who shot Sanchez's
brother before the detective decides to enforce justice
on his own: street justice. ***
The theme this season is power, as writers explore on
the power of the press, the power of the legal system, and
the power of gun violence. On a personal front, the wedding
is near for Brenda and longtime beau, FBI agent Fritz (Jon
Tenney) -- but will she say "I do"? ***
