Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) remains a killer series
during its third season. A forensics specialist Dexter has
a hobby; he’s a vigilante serial killer who preys on other
serial killers. Adopted by a police officer (James Remar)
after the brutal murder of his mother (which he witnessed),
Dexter had his murderous urges “directed” by his father
for good with special training about making sure to cover
up his kills but, more importantly, how to find the right
“victim” and make the world a better place. Still as Dexter
slips into a “normal” life including a girlfriend (the terrific
Julie Benz) he begins to have his doubts about his mission
in life, his identity and the intention of his father. He
also has to protect his identity from those around him which
included eluding another detective who suspected who and
what he was during the first and second season. ***
The third season of “Dexter” introduces some major
changes to the Miami PD. One thing that hasn’t change is
that Dexter’s trying to capture another serial killer this
time nicknamed “The Skinner” (for obvious reasons) to take
him out. When Dexter murders the new Assistant District
Attorney’s (Jimmy Smits) brother he ends up with a new friend
of sorts. ***
“Dexter” works so well because the main character is
the perfect anti-hero—he’s a serial killer doling out justice
to others who are killing innocents. While a lot has been
made about the flashbacks and psychology of the main character
the real appeal is in the complex portrayal that Michael
C. Hall brings to the show. He also has strong support from
the other cast members including Jennifer Carpenter (who
plays his sister but is married to Hall in real life which
seems almost incestuous). ---
Image & Sound:
“Dexter” looks quite nice with a very good warm looking
transfer. “Dexter” has always looked grainy quite deliberately.

The 5.1 Dolby Digital mix sounds quite nice with nice
activity in the surround speakers. ---
