Every show like every human life has a expiration date.
By the 12th season of “E.R.” the series had overstayed its
welcome. The storylines had become predictable. The show
had overstayed its welcome, jumped the shark however you
want to put it. It’s not that the show suddenly became BAD
just uninspired. ***
Even the love affair between Maura Tierney’s character
and Goran Visnjic’s seemed forced during the 12th season
and while I think both are terrific actors they couldn’t
do much with these by-the-numbers plots. We did a solid
group of guest tars for the 12th season but they couldn’t
save “E.R.” as it went into cardiac arrest. ---
Image & Sound:
As usual “E.R.” looks better than a cardiac monitor
for a patient in nearly perfect shape; there are some minor
irregularities BUT they aren’t all that distracting. Aliasing
and edge enhancement occasionally crop up. Blacks large
look good although they occasional are crushed. Detail is
nice throughout and the anamorphic presentation in 1.78:1
looks quite pleasing even upscaled. ***
Audio sounds fine throughout with a nice 2.0 mix that
is, naturally, dialogue driven except during scenes where
there is action or someone is dying. I’m a bit perplexed
as to why this isn’t presented in 5.1 since a lot of TV
shows are.
