Review:

Yawn… I mean really big YAWN. My wife got pretty excited about this show when it initially aired, but I never got into it. Anytime she’d watch it with our then land lady I’d either go play on the computer, take out my GBA, or go take a nap. Incidentally watching this again for the sake of the review it was tempting to do all the above, only my wife wanted to join me this time around. She posed an interesting question about the show “why are we wasting our holiday weekend watching this? What incentive is there for me to relive these not quite stories?” It’s a very good question, one that plagues reality TV in general. There’s no epic battle, no maniacal villain to overcome, no nobody who evolves into a great and memorable hero... just a bunch of “pretty faces” building houses and not really doing anything that would be worth more than one watch once in a great while if there’s really nothing else on. Not to mention that this series suffers from having an over abundance of competition, like the HG network where it’s pretty much nothing but shows like this. It becomes un-special, un-spectacular, and un-entertaining. I really would not recommend this box set at all.

Special Features:

On this one we get to see more staged banter between the actors doing the physical labor than anything useful,

Rest and relaxation - Witness the hilarious antics and hijinks on the set during down time. Bloopers and outtakes Preston and Paul - Watch an entertaining montage of your favorite on-set designers' banter.

Final Words:

Don’t buy this. There are so many better HG (home and garden) type of shows out there, you really don’t need to lower yourself to this (or any other) reality show.
