Slipping on the icy terrain of parody "Farce of the
Penguins" slips and falls more than it waddles (and when
it does waddle it waddles badly). Using stock footage to
assemble his parody of "March of the Penguins", Bob Saget
fumbles an attempt to spoof the popular National Geographic-like
documentary in this rude, crude comedy. Featuring the voice
talent of Samuel L. Jackson, Jaime Kennedy, Jason Alexander,
Tracy Morgan, Norm McDonald, Whoopi Goldberg and Saget himself
can't possibly save this disastrous comedy. --
Image & Sound:
"Farce" looks pretty decent considering that it is
assembled from a variety of stock footage of Penguins walking
and standing on the ice. Colors are.icy to say the least
and while the images are, for the most part, as crisp as
a cold winter day, there is occasional problems with grain
present. The audio sounds fine but since this is dialogue
driven there isn't much opportunity to use the 5.1 mix to
optimal effect. ---

We get an audio commentary by Saget to start with. While
Saget addresses the why about this film he doesn't address
the important question about what he was thinking when he
put together this disaster. OK, he does address that but
not the lack of inspiration and the lame attempts at comedy.
"To the Earth's Ice Hold and Back" is a 15 minute interview
with Saget discussing the making of the film. More than
a little tongue-in-cheek, the featurette actually manages
to be funnier and wittier than the film itself. We also
get bonus footage consisting of deleted scenes. We also
get a "behind-the-scenes" featurette showing the recording
of the dialogue. ---

Final Words:
|
A truly forgettable film, "Farce"
looks decent but is far from a decent film. If you're looking
for a film to watch while drunk and doing target practice
through the window, "Farce" will fit the bill even when you
miss something you really won't miss it. |
