Review:

Other than the franchise "Fast and Furious" name this movie has absolutly nothing to do with the other two installments. Tokyo Drift is a fast passed action movie with good looking people and cool cars. After Lucas Black (Friday Night Lights), gets in trouble car racing against the school jock (breifly played by Zach Bryant of Home Improvement) and destroying property he gets sent to live with his dad in Tokyo. Because of his obsession with car racing he is drawn to the first kid who shares his love of cars (Bow Wow) who is also the go to guy for black market hot items. He immediately runs his mouth off and gets into a drift race with D.K. Unfamiliar with how to drift, he destroys the car, loses the race, but befriends the owner. D.K. is the nephew of a Japenese mobster so Black inadvertently gets involved with the shady Japenese underworld. ******

What movie would be complete without a love triangle involving our hero, our villain, and the beautiful woman torn between them. This has nothing to do with the movie, it just acts as a brief distraction from the cool cars. After D.K.'s mobster uncle realizes that D.K.'s partner (who is also Blacks mentor) is skimming money another fast car race ensues and disaster follows. All this leads up to the climatic conclusion with what else but a race off, winner takes all. Don't blink or you will miss the fun cameo at the end.

Image and Sound:

The images were sharp and the picture clear. The cars colors were bold in contrast to the Tokyo night images and car garages. If you have surround sound it's the only way to watch a racing movie for the feel of the chase.

Special Features:

There are a ton of special features on this disc. The Drifting School was entertaining to watch how the stunt drivers and actors burned rubber on the Speedway. The cast cam was like watching teenagers with a video camera, fun but unnecessary. There are several deleted scenes with and without commentary and the feature commentary by director Justin Lin. The commentary was knowledgeable but I think it would have been more interesting if some of the actors joined in as well. Takes awhile to go through them all but defiantly scan through them all if you are a fan of cars or racing.

Final Words:

The acting was amateur and the story was weak but if you are just looking for a good time check this movie out. The cars are as cool as they come and the action is top notch. Don't come looking for an Oscar winner but you will leave with a smile on your face.
