“Fear Factor: The First Season”

Studio: Universal
Genre: TV-Series

Special Features:

“Second Season Best of Episode”

Review:

Fear -it drives us to do extreme things. Money- it drives us to do extreme things. Combine the two and you’ll get the short attention span of most of the TV public. The first season of “Fear Factor” is quite entertaining with “Newsradio” star Joe Rogan doing a great job of making things as repulsive as possible for the audience and inspiring the contestants. The contestants for those who haven’t seen the show compete against each other to see who will humiliate themselves the most by doing repulsive things (eating raw brains, live worms, etc.) for money. The first season only ran nine episodes and while probably would have made better sense to combine them with the second season of the show Universal has elected to offer these nine episodes as one set. ---

Image & Sound:

The show looks quite good in its presentation here from Universal. The colors are bright and images are crisp & clear. Shimmer pops up as an occasional issue but other than that the shows look terrific and better than when the show was first broadcast. Audio sounds fine as well with dialogue crisp and clean. ---

Special Features:

We get the “Best of” second season episode as the only extra. I’m surprised that there aren’t outtakes and scenes that were cut for broadcast included but the second season best of episode is a fine addition for fans as long as it doesn’t appear as part of the second season set. ---

Final Words:

“Fear Factor” continues to plug along because the public is always willing to see people humiliate and themselves by doing completely gross stunts. It’s our nature as people to want to see this stuff. It’s the voyeur in all of us and “Fear Factor” makes it darned entertaining.
