Review: |
I never saw “Felicity” during its
initial network run. It’s an addicting show much like Abrams’
“Alias”. The writing here is as complex as “Alias” with as
many mini-melodramas as possible during multiple episodes
although the twists and turns aren’t quite as severe. While
“Felicity” didn’t survive beyond four years (perfectly fitting
into the four years of college), its impact on other shows
of its type (and even those of other genres) continue to be
felt. With its beautiful cast and tightly directed episodes,
“Felicity” surprisingly has aged pretty well overall.

and Sound: |
The series
looks pretty good on DVD with faithful reproduction of the series
colorful setting. The stereo surround sound is solid as well.

Extras: |
Extras
are pretty thin here with the focus being on the original
17 episodes broadcast. There’s also the issue of songs that
have been replaced for the DVD although I can’t tell you which
ones since I never saw the show during its initial run, evidently
fans are somewhat upset about this issue. The inclusion of
the “Mad TV” parody is a lot of fun as plays with the conventions
and clichés of the series. ---

| Commentary:
|
J.J. Abrams
weighs in the commentary tracks on three episodes with key cast
members discussing the various episodes as well. This doesn’t
make up for the lack of extras but it’s an improvement on previous
seasons. --- |
| Final
Words: |
Relive your
college days through Felicity’s adventures. This solid DVD outing
will delight fans of the series. Although some of the original
music in the various episodes have been replaced due to licensing
issues, the overall look and sound of the DVD is rock solid.
