Review:

Lorelei and Rory are back, but not together, in the sixth season of this huge WB hit about the trials and tribulations of a mother and daughter relationship. In the past seasons we've grown with these characters as they have bonded with each other and formed new relationships. In the previous season we had Rory move off to college and by the end of the season she dropped out. Season six is different than what regular viewers are used to since the warm funny show they are used to has turned into a more disappointing and depressing look on life's problems. Sometimes a series will try a different approach in it's later seasons to try and freshen it up, but sometimes it doesn't work. As a male college student I don't write down on my daily planner to make sure I tune into the WB (now known as the CW) tonight so I don't miss my favorite show. The show appeals to both teens as well as adults (both female) since the lead characters are mother and daughter. I find the show incredibly melodramatic. The show turns into a giant soap of forced tears and trying to overcome personal roadblocks. Many fans of the show expressed extreme disappointment with this season because the headstrong characters they were used to ended up curling back. The show is a success, no doubt about it. It has a huge following and for fans the set is a logical buy. ---

Image & Sound:

The show is presented in the standard 1.33:1 (4:3) aspect ratio. The show looks sharp on DVD with solid colors and no signs of artifacts. For a TV show it has excellent picture quality. The sound is the 'standard for TV" Dolby Digital 2.0. The show's subject matter doesn't beg for a 5.1 mix, so it's pretty satisfactory. ---

Special Features:

Given that this is the show's sixth season and over the past sets we have gotten some bonus features, it isn't a total surprise that the set is barebones. Still, I think for long running shows we should get some episode commentaries or a short featurette.

Final Words:

The sixth season takes a different direction for the worse in terms of character development and overall story. Fans of the show will snap this up even though many of them are complaining about it. The lack of any real special features makes the set even more disappointing.
