If ever there was an example of the old adage absence
makes the heart grow fonder being untrue, it would be the
seventh season of "The Gilmore Girls". With the
departure of creator/writer/producer Amy Sherman-Palladino,
the show went into a creative tailspin. The previous seasons
of the show were creative, featured top notch writing and
acting. The show retained the look and feel of the original
show but somehow now feels like a badly created clone of
the original--you know something isn't quite right but you
can't quite put your finger on it.
***
The show is retains much of its quirky quality but it's
like a high school student's version of a quirky paper written
by a college student--it lacks maturity and, well, true
quirkiness. The last season of the show managed to avoid
the"jump the shark" feeling about it but like
your crazy Aunt Nellie who always gets tipsy at the Christmas
get together, it just "doesn't feel right" (don't
go there OK).
---
Image & Sound: Well it LOOKS and SOUNDS like the
previous seasons with sharp, nice looking transfers but
we all know that body-snatchers came in and filled the show
with pod people (which would explain the occasionally strange
behavior by characters that we've come to know and love.
OK. The stranger behavior exhibited during this season.
