“Herbie Fully Loaded”
Reviewer:
Wayne A. Klein Studio: Disney Home Video
Genre: Comedy
Release:
10/25/05
Special Features: A Day at the Races, Breaking the Rules: The Stunts of Herbie, Bringing Herbie to Life, Lindsay Lohan music video “First”, deleted scenes, bloopers, commentary by the director
Review:

Herbie the Love Bug is back in Disney’s latest attempt to cash in on their own popular movies. Old Number 53 is headed for the junk heap after years of storage in a garage. Luckily he’s saved from being crunched by Maggie Peyton (Lindsay Lohan) the daughter of a racer (Michael Keaton). Maggie gets Herbie back into shake and surprisingly (at least to her) beats a famous NASCAR driver Trip Murphy (Matt Dillon). Trip makes it his personal goal after his humiliating loss to take down Herbie. He just doesn’t realize who (or what) he’s messing with.

Video & Audio:

Herbie : Fully Loaded” sports a winning transfer here. Edge enhancement crops up throughout the movie but it isn’t a major distraction and the image clarity is crisp with solid, bright colors. The 5.1 sound mix while it isn’t outstanding does manage to convey the excitement of the race track with imaginative if limited use of the rear speakers. ---

Special Features: We get seven deleted scenes with optional commentar, a five minute blooper reel that’s not all that amusing and a music video freaturing Lohan singing “First”although it doesn’t have a whole lot to do with the movie. The featurettes are fine if brief . The best of them is a section that focuses on the stunts from the movie followed by a weak featurette on NASCAR racing hosted by racer Deborah Renshaw. We also get a featurette on how Herbie was brought to life. The audio commentary by director Angela Robinson with the director focusing primarily on the nuts and bolts of making the film although she makes a couple of interesting comments about working with the actors during production relating a few amusing stories.

Final Words:

An amusing family movie “Herbie: Fully Loaded” will keep types entertained and adults will be amused thinking about the earlier films in this series that they were subjected to as kids. It’s an entertaining movie that is appropriate for the whole family.
