With a new Hulk movie hitting theaters very soon, it's
no surprise that Universal has decided to jump on the bandwagon
and put out some more seasons of the classic television
drama based on everyone's favorite “incredible” Marvel superhero.
***
For those not familiar with it, this series ran from
the late 70s to the early 80s, and starred Bill Bixby as
the title character. This take on the character was more
a television drama that a superhero series, but entertaining
despite the different approach. Some Marvel Comics purists
may object to this version of the character (and I admit
it DOES feel dated), but it's still a terrific series with
a great character, played by a great actor. ***
The set contains every episode from the show's fourth
season. The episodes are as follows: Prometheus Parts One
And Two, Free Fall, Dark Side, Deep Shock, Bring Me The
Head of the Hulk, Fast Lane, Goodbye Eddie Cain, King of
the Beach, Wax Museum, East Winds, The First Parts One and
Two, The Harder They Fall, Interview With The Hulk, Half
Nelson, Danny, and Patterns. ***
The third and fourth season sets are being released
simultaneously on June 3, 2008 - just in time for you to
pick them up before the new Incredible Hulk feature film
hits theaters. ---
Image And Sound:
To put it simply, these shows look and sound the same
as they did when they first aired nearly three decades ago.
Unfortunately, this means that the presentation of these
shows on the DVD format tends to show the age of the series.
The picture quality throughout, as well as the audio, is
strictly average for a show of this era. The show doesn't
look or sound horrible, by any means, but I've seen companies
make television series older than this look and sound far
better. ---

Features: |
We get four featurettes in the set. First up is a 10-minute
featurette entitled “Creating an Iconic Character: The Hulk.”
Largely in the spirit of the Bill Bixby interviews on the
Season 3 sets, this one deals with the life and contributions
of Lou Ferrigno, who portrayed the transformed Hulk. Also
discussed are the stories that were written around him for
the show. Also included in the set are two featurettes for
the two-part Prometheus season premier - one is a commentary
for scenes throughout the episode, and the other one a gallery
of photos that were take on the set during the filming of
this now legendary episode. The last featurette is a far
shorter one, and is basically just a promotional piece for
the forthcoming film, featuring its star Edward Norton.
It's the same featurette you'll find in the simultaneously-released
third season set. All in all, a good batch of features.
