"Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom - SE - Wayne's Review"
Reviewer:
Wayne Klein
Studio: Paramount Home Video
Genre: Action
Release:
5/13/08
Special Features: "Creepy Crawlies", "Locations", storyboard sequences "The Mine Cart Chase", "Lego Indiana Jones", Galleries, a new introduction by Spielberg and Lucas ---
Review:

The most maligned of the original trilogy, "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" paved the way for the PG-13 rating because of the level of graphic violence and themes. It's also still a very fine film that has been unfairly attacked as the worst of the original films. While it is flawed (and could have used Lawrence Kasdan's deft writing skills), the set pieces are actually better than those in "Raiders" with its opening song and dance number as a highlight of the film. ---

This time around Indy (Ford again) his sidekick Short Round (Jonathan Ke Quan) and "Willie" Scott (Kate Capshaw) --annoying love interest for Indy--fights a cult that kidnaps and enslaves children while brainwashing its followers. ---

Special Features:

New stuff here including another introduction by Spielberg and Lucas. "Creepy Crawlies" focuses on the yucky sequence involving the title creatures that made the dinner sequence so revolting. ***

Locations is self explanatory and we get a storyboard sequence for "The Mine Cart Chase" which was originally supposed to be part of the first film. Also DVD galleries galore with pictures of various props, behind-the-scenes footage and of miniatures used for the mine cart chase sequence but unfortunately we don't get the rumored deleted scenes and there isn't a commentary track by either Spielberg or Lucas. ---

Final Words:

Final Words: An underrated and undeserved critically reviled sequel "Temple of Doom" is still lots of fun but may be too scary for children under the age of five.
