Johnny Knoxville and company return after a four year
hiatus, and thankfully they haven't lost their touch. "Jackass
number two" can best be described as a collection of numerous
sketches, haphazardly pieced together and put onscreen with
no concept of continuity or logical progression. The humor
is at best infantile, and at worse downright gross. But
that is the film's best asset, an exuberant celebration
of moronic behavior that's hysterical to behold. Branding,
swimming with sharks, impersonating senior citizens, beer
colonics, leeches, pleasuring a horse---nothing is too extreme
to do on camera. A brashly funny film perfect for anyone
looking for a laugh with a low intelligence quota. The unrated
version has three minutes that were edited out of the theatrical
release to get an R rating. ***
Image and Sound: The picture quality leaves a bit to
be desired, mostly looking muted and occasionally bleached
out. Camerawork is occasionally jumpy, in keeping with the
documentary-like feel of the film. The Dolby Digital 5.1
sound is clear, but never seems to be used to its full potential.

Features: |
In terms of extras, you truly get your money's worth.
The disc includes seven additional scenes (all of which
included male frontal nudity), as well as numerous deleted
scenes that are better off left on the cutting room floor.
There's also a 30 minute documentary on the making of the
film, which is entertaining to watch although is never particularly
insightful. The commentary track by the cast is one of the
highlights of the special features, as the gang relates
the insanity that went on during filming, as well as random
thoughts that pop in their brains as the tape is rolling.
But as the case with many releases, not all the extras are
worthwhile. The music video by Big Nasty sounds like the
same lyrics played over and over again, and the outtakes
sem rather nonsensical. *********

Final Words:
|
"Jackass number two" may be obnoxious
and rude, but it's funny as hell. Watching this effort won't
raise your IQ, but it will definitely entertain as you marvel
at the lengths the cast goes to amuse their audience. Audacious
and daring, this is worth renting---provided you're not easily
offended or very impressionable. |
