"Jag" - Season 5
Reviewer:
Taylor Carlson
Studio: Paramount
Genre: TV - Series
Release:
1-29-08
Special Features: Gag Reel
Review:

JAG returns for another season on DVD. With its share of military action and courtroom law drama, this was one of the finest TV series out there during its run. The fifth season continues the reign of excellence for the series. Whether you watch for the military atmosphere lacked by so many shows like this, or for the gripping, realistic courtroom drama, this is yet another season that doesn't fail to please. ***

This season is definitely one of the finest for the series. Star David James Elliott is back in fine form, and the fifth set of the series has a number of excellent guest stars, including Montel Williams and Trisha Yearwood. Twenty-five episodes total are featured in the set, divided amongst six discs. ***

As with the fourth season, not to mention several other TV show DVDs they release, Paramount has included a disclaimer on the back of the package stating that some shows may have been edited from the original broadcast. I wish they would have been more specific here, and stated what has been edited. How hard is it to say what's been changed? ---

Image And Sound:

Earlier Jag season sets were fullscreen. The fifth season, however, changes all this, and presents the series in anamorphic widescreen. The picture quality is very good - some minor grain here and there but nothing substantially negative. Sound quality is good, and the dialogue is always clear.

Special Features:

After the last few season releases of JAG, and their lack of bonus features, I wasn't expecting much from the fifth season. And naturally, there isn't much here. All we get is a disposable gag reel. Why couldn't Paramount round up the cast and record some commentary tracks? ---

Final Words:

Another great season of JAG, though I can't help but be disappointed at the lack of bonus material. Just the same, the episodes are as great now as they were when they first aired. If you're a fan, go ahead and add it to your collection.
