Jaime Kennedy is best known for his appearences in the
"Scream" films and his comedy act. This short lived series
on MTV chronicled Kennedy's attempt to break into the rap
world with his partner in crime Stuart Stone. Neither one
of them looks like your typical rapper nor do they should
like it which probably is why they weren't really successful
at it. Mixing low brow comedy rap with serious material
that is difficult to take at face value. Consisting of seven
episodes the series appears on DVD with substantial extras
given the limited amount of episodes shot. ---
Image & Sound:
Like a lot of material shot on the cheap with video
the show looks EXACTLY as it appeared on the MTV network.
Audio is presented in 2.0 with pretty decent stereo separation
most of the time. ---

Every episode has a commentary track by Kennedy, Stone
and director George Vershooer. We also get a featurette
"Lighting the Fuse" that consists primarily of interviews
shot for MTV. "Rappin' with Jaime and Stu" another featurette
appears along with the video for "Rolling with Bob Sagat".
There is also 45 minutes of deleted footage and extended
scenes as well as an interview section featuring George
Lucas(!), Ed McMahon, Bob Saget and Ice T among others.
Finally we get a 30 minute informerical selling the CD they
made as part of the package.

Final Words:
|
Like all reality shows there
are moments of unintentional humor which balances out the
intentional stuff quite well. This is a fascinating mixture
of satire on rap and "mockumentary" on the process of being
a rap star. |
