“Knot's Landing: The Complete First Season”
Reviewer:
Wayne A. Klein
Studio: Warner
Genre: TV-Series
Release:
4/4/06
Special Features: Gary and Val: Together Again
Review:

Without the tongue-in-cheek wit, "Knot's Landing" was the "Desperate Housewives" of its time. This prime time soap followed five families in a small California community. "Knot's" began as a spin-off of the popular "Dallas" featuring the characters of Gary and Val Ewing (Ted Shackelford and Joan Van Ark). Running for an astonishing 14 seasons on CBS, the show did feature a tie-in with "Dallas" with Larry Hagman making a guest appearence as J.R. and dealt with everything from rape to Gary's struggle to alcholism during the first season of the show. ---

Image & Sound:

The show looks extremely good particularly when considering the age of the series. As with "Dallas" its presented in its original full screen presentation with vivid colors with only the occasional flaw in the form of some image softness to mar the picture. Sound is crisp and clear throughout the set. ---

Special Features: The first 13 episodes of the show get some limited extras including an extended interview with Ted Shackelford and Joan Van Ark. We also get two commentary tracks by members of the cast discussing two pivotal episodes. There's a surprising wealth of trivia packed into each of these commentary tracks so while they might not be numerous they are quite good.

Final Words:

Fans of "Knot's" can finally rejoice that their show has received a very nice DVD release. The image quality is quite good and there's a sprinkling of good extras. Although the extras aren't quite as extensive as "Dallas" the overall presentation of this set is up to Warner's usual high standards.
