"Law & Order: Special Victims Unit- The Third Year"

Release:
January 30, 2007
Special Features: None
Review:

From one of the longest running franchises on television Law & Order, Law & Order Special victims unit has finally made it onto DVD. The entire series lingers in limbo between television and DVD since this is the third season on DVD and it's the sixth season running on TV now. But for all the fans it is worth the wait. Quickly becoming even more popular then it's original, SVU tackles sexually based crimes ranging from rape, molestation, sexaul abuse and more. The stories are gripping and often don't end the way you would expect them to. The Law and Order twist is one of the main reasons the fans keep coming back for more. ****

The detectives in SVU have been consistant since the beginning and have evolved over the years. Mariska Hargaty (who won an Emmy for her role as Olivia Benson) and Christopher Meloni stand out as the lead detectives on the case, but in thier absence Ice-T, Richard Belzar, Dann Floreck, and Stephanie March can hold thier own. This season has stellar guest stars including the late John Ritter, Mark Paul-Gossellar (NYPD Blues), Eric Stoltz, Henry Winkler and Emmy nominated Martha Pimperton. ****

Although this series is sometimes too gritty for sensatives eyes, in my opionion is one of the best dramas on television today. The show has a real insight into society's imperfections and discriminations. Stories told by characters that are less than perfect (Olivia was the child of a rape), the cast chemistry is perfect and brings a laid back, real life feel to the show.

Image and Sound:

As in most television series there is not too much in the way of spectacular imagry or sound. The images were sharp and the backdrop always real. Sometimes I think that background music is distracting but not so much that it takes anything away from the show.

Special Features:

Nothing in the way of special features, just some spainish subtitles

Final Words:

Exectutive Producer Dick Wolf wins again in this installment of the Law and Order franchise. If you are a fan of the original or even the prior seasons, SVU really comes into its own this season. Give it a shot, you will not be dissapointed.
