Review: |
Releasing seasons out of order has
turned into a bit of a gamble for Universal. On the one hand,
they can tie neatly into the new season, on the other fans
become disgruntled that the story line has been disrupted
and some of their favorites aren’t available. Universal has
done this with the entire “Law & Order” franchise although,
curiously, season one was released of CI but not season two.
I imagine it’s frustrating for fans of the series.

“CI” looks
quite good on DVD. I have mixed feelings about these dual sided
discs, however, as they are more prone to damage. The sound
quality is also quite good as well. |

Extras: |
Although
not devoid of extras, the extras included here are pretty
perfunctory. The two featurettes are interesting providing
a glimpse behind the scenes with a tour of the set. We also
get a featurette on the lead character played by Vincent D’Onofrio
discussing what motivates this unusual character on the series.
The interview with P.I. and consultant Mike Struk isn’t exactly
enlightening but it does explain the sense of reality that
permeates this show.

a series to tie in with the current season is smart marketing
but does it provide additional value to the fans? Frankly, no
and it’s a pity that Universal hasn’t put more effort into the
special features of this series. Also, skipping season two was
an odd choice. It would have made better sense to release season
two and then season three in rapid succession. |
