“MacGyver: The 7th Final - Season”
Reviewer:
Wayne Klein
Studio: Paramount Home Video
Genre: TV-Series
Release:
10/24/06
Special Features: Paper clips, gum and spit to make amazing things with (just kidding!)
Review:

From 1985 to 1992 MacGyver kept fans guessing as to how he would solve his conflicts without resorting to killing. Usually Mac could create a way out of his difficult situations with little more than paperclips, gum and spit. That’s no different on the seventh and final season of this exceedingly clever and entertaining TV show. ---

Image & Sound:

Mac looks as good as the previous season. Colors are consistent throughout although they have faded a bit with time. The prints occasionally have some mild damage to them but it’s not distracting. Digital compression issues rarely came up. The audio sounds solid throughout with dialogue coming across crisp and clear. While it could be gussied up a bit it sounds fine in its presentation in this set. ---

Special Features:

Every boxed set comes with paperclips, chewing gum and a bit of Richard Dean Anderson’s spit in a cup. I was just kidding. They did try to get some spit for this set but weren’t able to. It would be nice if there were some sort of featurettes on the show but CBS/Paramount has never given us anything with this series that was worthwhile in the way of extras. It’s too bad because the fans certainly deserve a commentary track or two. With only fourteen episodes during the final season you would expect that CBS/Paramount would also be throwing in the two 1994 TV movies as part of this set. Nope because then you wouldn’t have to buy them in a couple of months when they release them.

Final Words:

There never was a hero quite like Mac; he was ingenious at solving problems with his mind. Another enjoyable if brief season and another missed opportunity for Paramount to actually give something to the fans of the series. Here’s hoping that actually contact someone to do extras/commentary for the TV movies.
