Wayne A. Klein

Review:

Tyler Perry returns with his popular character Madea (Tyler Perry in drag) the baddest grandmother you can imagine. Madea doesn’t take any lip from anyone and is quite happy to pull out her gun when necessary to scare everyone. Madea’s hands are full in this sequel to “Diary of a Mad Black Woman”. She’s taken on a foster teen and one of her nieces (Rochelle Aytes) is engaged to a bully an abusive man (Blair Underwood) who beats her up. The jokes fly fast and furious alternating with the drama in the film which features poet Maya Angelou as Madea tries to gain control of a tota lly uncontrollable situation.

Image & Sound:

Looks better than Tyler Perry in drag. No, really the transfer looks extremely good here. There are some minor issues with edge enhancement but on the whole colors are vibrant and blacks are rock solid. Audio is also quite good with nice directional use of sound despite the fact that this is a drama and is primarily dialogue driven. ---

Special Features:

Tyler Perry’s commentary track was the best thing here for me. He’s self effacing about his accomplishments in the film but full of trivia and praise for the other actors and production crew that contributed to the film. We also get a music video which is amusing, production featurette on the making of the film which is pretty good filled with interviews. The latter features the usual praise from actors for Perry and his work but little in the way of revelations. We also get deleted scenes, a music video and a “making of” that focuses on the music video. ---

Final Words:

I certainly wouldn’t want to be part of this household with all the turmoil they face. On the other hand Madea is one funny granny.
