A very entertaining documentary on mankind's (the USA's)
efforts to reach and walk on the Moon. The packaging of
this docudrama was impressive. The DVD features personal
voiceover accounts from astronauts Buzz Aldrin and Neil
Armstrong and input from voice over celebrities Matt Damon,
Mathew McConaughey, Paul Newman, John Travolta, Morgan Freeman,
and many more reading statements made by the various participants
in the NASA Moon Exploration program. ***
A brief synopsis of the film Narrated by Tom Hanks,
the IMAX film transports the viewer onto the Lunar surface.
The reenactment allows the audience to relive the wonders
and trials of the 12 courageous Astronauts who explored
the hostile environment of our closest space neighbor. The
various readings of the NASA participants' written thoughts
by the voice over commentators, gives a sense of the feelings
and trials the Astronauts encountered while going through
their extraordinary experience. The primitive video, by
today's standards, taken by these men while on the Moon,
is not an issue because of the novel presentation style
the producers took within this work. Effective and enjoyable.

Image & Sound:
An IMAX film so the sound and the images are outstanding.
The primitive looking video taken by the Astronauts during
their various flights are minimized by using a postage stamp
style presentation which still gives a sense of place and
action while not distracting from the great artificial staging
of the actual events. ***

Final Words:

I remember where I was when Apollo
11 landed on the Moon and I watched, prayed, and listened
to the Astronauts and the Houston Space Center converse with
each other from take off to the approach and eventual landing
on the Lunar surface. In the interest of full disclosure,
I have the front page newspaper covers of almost all the NASA
flights starting with Alan Shepard's brief revolutions around
our planet. So I am an easy reviewer for this presentation.
I also might be its most critical reviewer, since I think
the Lunar exploration effort is one of Man's more accomplished
activities. The most memorable phrase which has stuck with
me through the years is "Houston, Tranquility Base here, the
Eagle has landed." I was by myself and remember cheering and
feeling proud. Pretty cool stuff. Pretty good film. Do yourself
and your young ones a favor and check it out. PS. Veronica
Lugo, you go girl!!! The stars await. *** |
