Even in his sixties, Barry Manilow still doesn't fail
to entertain. Millions of album sales later, he's still
on top of his game. Continuing to record and tour, and still
recording and releasing material on a regular basis, his
fan following is as strong as ever. Songs From The Seventies
is the latest DVD release from Manilow, intended as a companion
piece to his latest studio album, The Greatest Songs Of
The Seventies. ***
Songs From The Seventies is the DVD release of the
concert that aired on PBS last year. This performance features
Manilow at the top of his game, performing a wide variety
of tracks, ranging from his classics, right down to the
cover songs from his latest piece of studio output. By the
time they hit their sixties, plenty of musical artists'
voices have degraded, and they can no longer deliver the
same high-quality performances they used to. Fortunately,
Manilow is an exception to this rule, and the PBS performance
definitely ranks amongst his finest work. ***
The set is two disc. It features the complete concert
on the first disc, and the previously unreleased bonus material
on the second. ---
Image And Sound:
This is the way a concert on DVD should look and sound.
The images are clear and bright, and the audio is nothing
less. To put it simply, this DVD both looks and sounds incredible.

Features: |
The entire second disc of the set is devoted to the
bonus material. There are two main features here - behind-the-scenes
footage, as well as outtakes/alternative performances of
many of the songs. The outtakes are a must-see for Manilow
fans. While rightfully not included in the television airing,
fans are going to love watching these. The behind-the-scenes
footage goes in depth with the making of aspect of the show.
A number of concerts on DVD and other music DVDs don't include
any bonus material at all - so I'm glad to see Manilow's
show is done justice on DVD.
