The Review:

Time to rev those engines make a beeline for the highway as one of the all time worst horror movies of the 80’s comes to DVD in a new re-release . “Maximum Overdrive” proved that Stephen King’s gift as a writer didn’t transform him into Steven Spielberg. An awful, awful mess that King can only blame himself for (and he does), “Maximum Overdrive” belongs in the category so-bad-it’s good. Based on King’s short story “Trucks”, King stretches out this tale of a diner terrorized by rampaging trucks and other machinery mysteriously brought to life when the Earth passes through the tail of a comet.

Image and Sound: Although this might have had a lube job, when you look under the hood you find the same picture quality as the previous DVD release. Anchor Bay’s release looked just fine with nice, sharp picture quality and nice vivid colors. The images here appear roughly the same although the picture quality might be a tad sharper. The 5.1 sound will rock a room particularly if you turn up the volume during the AC/DC soundtrack. ---
The Extras:

Nada

Commentary: Ditto.
Final Words: Although the film looks like it was assembled from the spare parts of other thrillers King has scripted, “Maximum Overdrive” the absurd acting and direction along with the crunching metal (and metal soundtrack) might make this worthwhile for hardcore King fans. All the rest stay far away.
