Review: |
Napoleon is an average nerdy, high
school teen in an idaho small town. He lives with his grandmother,
and an older brother Kip, who spends the day cruising chat
rooms, looking for his special someone. He befriends a new
student, Pedro, who decides to run for class president. This
slice of life movie, resonated with young people on many levels.
The brother meets his love, Rowanda, the uncle and brother
sell Tupperware together, running the election campaign...you
get the idea. We follow Napoleon all the way to his brother's
wedding...that is if you stay to the end ... of the credits
that is.

Extras: |
For a small
film that became big, Fox has provided for a commentary track
from the director with the pricipal actor Jon Heder, Napoleon
in the movie, and the producer. There is a featurette about
the wedding shoot filmed a year after principal photography
wrapped. The DVD also has a special "Peluca" which
was the director's first student short and the actual precursor
to the film.

| Commentary:
|
Director Jared Hess, Jon Heder
played Napoleon, and Producer Jeremy Coon. This commentary discusses
the backstory of many of the more memorable scenes in the movie.
Anecdotes are interesting. It is interesting to hear Jon Heder
as himself instead of Napoleon. You appreciate his craftsmanship
when acting. |

Words: |
Hilarious,
but not a laugh out loud movie...well maybe it is in a couple
of scenes, but there is funny scenarios, funny reactions, body
language and Napoleon's great annoyances...everybody he encounters
through his day. You can connect with Napoleon, this kid's life
is realistic, it could actually happen and did to much of the
director and writer. While at times the film quality is less
than perfect, who cares, because the only thing you do care
about is Napoleon and how it is going with his friends. When
the movie ends...you feel good. It's a fun movie that has bizarre
characters and they all come to a satisfactory conclusion. |
