Whenever I watch "Nip/Tuck" I'm reminded of the song
by cult musician Richard Thompson (which appears on the
album "Invisible Means"-http://www.richardthompson-music.com/song_o_matic.asp?id=252-)"March
of the Cosmetic Surgeons" (from an album I highly recommend)--
"We nip and tuck, and we nip and tuck***
And we nip and tuck, and we nip and tuck***
And we nip and tuck all day***
We liposuck, and we liposuck***
And we liposuck, and we liposuck,***
And we liposuck all day***
Once I was old, ugly I was told***
Till that blessed day when I met Dr. Krikstein***
Now my thighs are firm and thin,***
No rolls beneath my chin***
And my nose is an ode composed***
By the blade of Dr. Krikstein***
Dr. Krikstein" ****
The fifth season saw Sean (Dylan Walsh) and Christian
(Julian McMahon)move their practice to Los Angeles after
they became consultants for a TV drama about plastic surgery.
Ultimately, the duo became on camera celebrities as well
creating increasing their sense of uneasy rivalry. Christian
poses nude for Playgirl and Sean begins dating Kate Tinsley
(Paula Marshall) the actress on the show "Hearts 'n' Scalpels".
Dawn Budge(Rosie O'Donnell) returns for recuperative surgery
after being mauled by an eagle while a scientist who obviously
has been watching too many episodes of "The X-Files" comes
to the surgeons to have a metal chip planted by aliens removed
from his back. Oh, and Julia (Joely Richardson) faces a
major change in her life when it comes to sex and dating.

In other words, it was a typically weird and strange
season for the carving twins. ***
This season set is being divided up because the second
half of the fifth season will be airing in early 2009. It
will be appearing probably sometime before the premiere
of the sixth season on DVD in the Fall of 2009. ---
Image & Sound:
As with previous seasons, Warner has done a nice transfer
for the show. Grain is evident (and that can be a good thing)
but I suspect that we're looking at some video noise since
I believe the show is shot in high def video. I could be
wrong but either way, be aware this doesn't look quite as
smooth as digitally overprocessed shows either by design
or due to the transfer. ***
Audio sounds nice. Directional sound is used intermittently
during the show but when it is used it accents the show
quite well.
