The fourth season of “One Tree Hill” (how many shows
are they going to name after U2 songs?) shows us the kids
of Tree Hill High growing up as graduation looms. The pretty
kids of the show run into their fair share of issues (Peyton
has a stalker and he’s a rapist) and possible wins (the
Ravens basketball team has a chance at the state championship).
It seems like the first eight episodes of season four are
an attempt on the part of the writers to get out of the
corner they wrote the characters into. As with all TV shows
writers and producers often create a cliff hanger without
having a proper resolution in mind and that seems to have
been the case here as well as they spend the better half
of the fourth season digging themselves out of the hole
the characters had fallen into at the end of the fourth
season. ---
Image & Sound:
As with previous seasons, “One Tree Hill” looks quite
good with bold colors complimenting the beautiful cast members.
There are occasional issues such as edge enhancement that
flare up now and again but, on the whole, the series looks
and sounds quite good in a solid DVD presentation.

Aside from three perfunctorily performed commentary
tracks with James Lafferty, Lee Norris and Stephen Colletti
as well as creator/producer Mark Schwahn. We also get “One
Tree Hill in Your Town” a featurette that’s actually pretty
decent as well as “James Lafferty’s One Tree Hill Fourth
Annual Charity Basketball Tournament” where we get to see
what the young star does to raise money for those in need
in his off time. There’s also a gag reel and roughly 30
minutes of deleted scenes included as part of the set. This
is a surprisingly generous group of extras for a show in
its fourth season on DVD.

Final Words:

Fans will enjoy the fourth season
of “Hill” but the quality of the writing went down hill for
the series. |
