The Review:

Making a faux porno-superhero-comedy means never having to say your sorry particularly if you’re running around with a dildo strapped to your head. From the warped minds that brought us “South Park”, “Cannibal: The Musical” and “Team America”, comes, well, “Orgazmo”! Deliberately bad movies are an art form and Trey Parker has excelled at creating amazingly bad, funny movies in addition to their TV series. What’s amazing is how idiotic “Orgazmo” is. That’s a compliment because to produce idiotic comedies is amazingly difficult. Really. If you’ve ever seen a porno movie (I’m not saying I have mind you), you’ll appreciate the fun poked at the style of porno movies. Playing off the wholesomeness of Joe nd the porn industry works wonders at extending the laughs in this movie. ***

Trey Parker stars as Joe Young a Mormon on a mission to convert Los Angeles. He also happens to know kung fu and becomes a porn star to earn enough money so he can be married in the Mormon Temple back in Salt Lake City. Joe must take back his life from the evil porn producer and retain his dignity (not possible) while getting his revenge. Playing with the conventions of bad movies (trust me, the acting is deliberately bad), this parody of superhero movie porn movies plays it straight on some level but, luckily, it’s funny as hell. It’s crude, but funn as hell. ---

Image and Sound: Looks as clean as a newly shaven porn star. Seriously, an exceptionally crisp, colorful and vibrant transfer with nice color reproduction that will make you scream, “more, more, more”. The 2.0 soundtrack leaves a bit to be desired as it should have been remixed for 5.1 but it still sounds pretty darn good the way it is now. You may want to wear protection while watching this film. Really.
The Extras:

“The Book of Orgazmo” covers everything from foreplay to afterglow. Featuring interviews with everyone involved in the movie from Parker and Stone to many of the porn actors that appeared in the movie, this featurette has a lot of humor that would fit into the NC-17/R rated range. There’s also the parody trailer that was made in 16 mm before the film went into production in addition to the real trailer for the film. There’s Easter eggs scattered about (luckily their not to hard to find). There’s footage from the Dragon Con held in Atlanta in 1998 via satellite. It’s actually pretty funny and occasionally painful to watch. “EPK Interviews” features interview answers primed for local TV to use with blank spots for the interviewer to ask Trey Parker questions. There are deleted scenes and outtakes included as well. “Behind-The-Scenes” takes u on a tour of the sets during production. ---

Commentary: Well we get a slightly out there commentary track from Trey Parker, Matt Stone and their associates that covers the highs (they truly sound high during much of the commentary) and lows of making a dirty, nasty, filthy but totally pleasing comedy filled with sex, lies and videotape. The secondary commentary with the cast is almost as funny although it’s clear they could have used a bit of “loosening up”. Throw in a third commentary track with Weird Al Yankovic, Kevin Smith and assorted friends of Trey and Matt and you’re in for a feast for the senses. Admittedly, it depends on how famished you are when it comes to stimulation but you’ll enjoy it nonetheless.
Final Words: A demented, twisted saga of a poor Mormon missionary that can kick butt with kung fu moves sucked into the world of porn for the sake of his fiancé (and their wedding), “Orgazmo” will turn your stomach, have you turning off the TV, turn you on or turn your funny bone inside out. You’ll have to decide for yourself if this is your cup of tea. If you enjoy “South Park” and want to take a twisted trip down memory lane, then by all means stick “Orgazmo” in and enjoy the ride. This film is totally inappropriate for anyone under the age of 18 (although I would have enjoyed it at that age) but adults will laugh, cry, pay their mortgage, wish they had rented something else or sit there dumbfounded.
