"Perfect Strangers"
Reviewer:
Wayne Klein
Studio: Sony Home Video
Genre: Drama
Release:
8/21/07
Special Features: "Virtual Lives: The Making of 'Perfect Strangers"
Review:

For every step forward Halle Berry takes in her career she takes two steps back. Exhibit #1 "Cat Woman" followed quite closely by exhibit # 2 "Gothica" and finally exhibit # 3 "Perfect Strangers". I'd say the same is true of Bruce Willis as well but he's past the middle of his career and on the declining side of things. ***

Berry plays Rowena Price a reporter for a New York paper who sees the story of a lifetime in Harrison Hill (Bruce Willis) a married executive who is involved with Grace a friend. When Grace is murdered, Rowena suspects that Hill is guilty of the crime and goes undercover to try and nail him. ***

On the surface "Perfect Stranger" sounds like it has potential. Unfortunately director James Foley and his cast are stuck with a convoluted poorly thought out narrative that just isn't convincing. Nor are any of the actors convincing in their roles. Berry isn't as bad here as she has been in some other campy romps but the material she's working with just doesn't give her anything to truly work with. Willis essentially sleepwalks through his role ---

Image & Sound:

Sony is no stranger to excellent transfers and they prove once again to be tops with a beautiful transfer that pops. Sadly, the effort is wasted. The audio is top notch as well. ---

Special Features:

Clearly no one wants to own up to this turkey. We don't get any commentary tracks and, aside from a single featurette, this is a pretty bare bones presentation. ---

Final Words:

If all the mediocre movies are missing from the shelf on Friday night, grabbing "Perfect Strangers" would still be a mistake. Heck even the low budget horror flicks of the 50's are more enjoyable than this.
