After the departure (or sacking depending upon on how
you look at it) of the increasingly mentally unstable Pink
Floyd founder Syd Barrett, Pink Floyd soldiered on without
a true leader or true sense of musical direction. The band
put out a series of interesting albums that failed to develop
the strengths within the band-Roger Waters' witty, acerbic
lyrics, David Gilmour's brilliant skills and guitar player/songwriter/arranger,
Richard Wright's keyboard coloring and Nick Mason's solid
drumming. With "Meddle" that all changed the band found
their musical path independent of Syd Barrett's esoteric
and experimental musical wanderings. ***
"A Classic Album Under Review" allows critics and Floyd
experts to give their insight into this pivotal album from
Pink Floyd's career. Featuring previously unseen concert
footage and behind-the-scenes photographs, this provides
an interesting insight into the creation of one of the Waters'
led era classics. ---
Image & Sound:
Quality varies quite a bit from fair to solid depending
upon the source, its age and how successful a digital clean
up the older footage receives. Audio is good throughout
but hardly perfect which isn't a surprise given the age
of much of the source material. ---
