“Sabrina the Teenage Witch Season 4”
Reviewer:

Studio: Paramount
Genre: TV Series
Release:
6/17/08
Special Features: None
Review:

Sabrina the Teenage Witch was a fantastic series, never failing to entertain during a run that spanned both ABC and the WB networks, from 1996-2003, it was always a great series. The show starred Melissa Joan Hart, who was best known at the time for her work on the classic Nickelodeon series, Clarissa Explains It All. And with Sabrina, she crafted a role that was just as timeless - possible moreso. ***

All of the episodes from Season 4, the last season on ABC, are included in this box set. The episodes included are as follows: No Place Like Home, Dream A Little Dreama Me, Little Orphan Hilda, Spoiled Rotten, Episode LXXXI: The Phantom Menace, Prelude To A Kiss, Aging Not So Gracefully, Love Means Never Having To Say You're Sorry, Ice Station Sabrina, Salem and Juliette, Sabrina Nipping At Your Nose, Now You See Her Now You Don't, Super Hero, Love In Bloom, Welcome Back Duke, Salem's Daughter, Dreama The Mouse, The Wild Wild Witch, She's Baaaack!, The Four Faces of Sabrina, and The End of an Era. ***

As with all current Paramount DVD releases, there's the obligatory “some episodes may have been edited” disclaimer. As I didn't watch the show when it first aired, I can't tell what, if anything, got edited. What I don't understand is why they can't just come right out and say what has been altered, if anything. ***

With a nice mixture of comedy and other storyline elements, it's a great series that always stayed fresh. This is one of those shows that pulls everything off so nicely, that you don't even have to fall into the target demographic to enjoy it. It's an instant classic, and I'm glad it's finally getting long-overdue DVD set releases. ---

Image And Sound:

For the most part the transfer to DVD is a solid one. There are some portions that show the series' age, but as a whole the show looks good. Still, you'll wish they had given it at least SOME kind of DVD mastering rather than just slapping it on the new format. The audio quality is as good as can be expected from a show like this, but like the video, you'll wish it had been given some kind of mastering.

Special Features:

None. This is a shame, it would have been great to have heard some behind-the-scenes stories/interviews/etc. Why couldn't they track down Melissa Joan Hart to record some commentaries?

Final Words:

Great show, though I wish they'd mastered the audio/video and included some bonus featurettes/commentaries. Still, don't let the little flaws stop you from getting this set if you're a fan of the show.
