The Review:

Redd Foxx was the perfect choice to play Sanford and Demond Wilson played the perfect comic foil on the popular series which adapted the British TV show “Steptoe and Son” for an American audience. The series continues to have its fans and is still very, very funny. Even when the dialogue isn’t the best, the delivery is perfect by this terrific cast of vets.

Image and Sound: “Sanford and Son” looks pretty darn good for such an old coot. Image quality varies a bit with some sequences amazingly sharp and crystal clear and others a bit dodgy but, on the whole, the series looks solid if not spectacular. Blame the fact that it was shot in videotape on the limitations of the DVD. Or blame the guy that did the transfer whomever you want but considering the cost, Paramount has done a solid job here. The sound has considerable hiss and can’t overcome the limitations of the mono format it was recorded in but there has been a clear concerted effort to clean it up a bit. Presence is pretty good overall and this is a sharp improvement over the syndicated version that’s floated around for years. ---
The Extras:

Fans would grab their chest and announce, “this is the big one. You hear that Redd, I’m coming to join you” if this had extras. Sadly, it doesn’t so were all stuck in this world for the time being.

Commentary: Hey, corner these supporting actors that appeared on the show while you can and get their comments. I doubt that’s going to happen anytime soon but, hey, one can always wish.
Final Words: A very funny comedy ain’t afraid to give you one across the lips—in this case it’s a smile not a punch. The old junk yard looks pretty good in this DVD but, sadly, there’s no extra junk on the DVD.
