The part of Sarah is brought to life again but this
time from a new face, Izabella Miko (Deadwood and Coyote
Ugly). The new Sarah has got the dance moves but not that
great when it comes to the acting part. In the first movie
Sarah is a down to earth suburban girl that is trying to
fit into her urban surroundings. In Save the Last Dance
2 she has lost the suburbs and completely changed into a
hip hop princess. With no compassion and little heart the
new Sarah just cannot pull off the sincerity needed for
this role. ****
Now to the moves, personally I thought the ballet scenes
were the best but I am not really partial to hip hop. As
a fan of the first movie I want to raise one more issue
with the makers of this movie. What happened to Derek? In
the first Save the Last Dance Sarah and Derek fall in love,
but in the sequel that takes place not even a year later
they have broken up. When you portray a solid connection
like they did in the original it doesn't disappear in a
few months. ****
I think the movie would have been better in Derek was
reintroduced. Don't get me wrong, I like the new guy she
fell in love with (Columbus Short), but is she going to
drop him in a few months to? That's not my idea of a fairy
tale ending.
Image and Sound:
The soundtrack is the best part about the sound from
this film. It jams out some of the latest hip hop sounds
featuring Ne-Yo. The picture quality wasn't bad but there
wasn't anything remarkable about it either. The film is
presented in widescreen but it is direct to DVD so don't
expect star quality.
