Review: |
Big Star’s title tune (re-recorded
for the show) perfectly catches the essence of the uncertain
70’s. “That 70’s Show” at its best also captures the essence
of the 70’s but more importantly the essence of being a teenager.
During the third season Red sets up new house rules and installs
a smoke detector which is bad news since the kids have been
smoking pot. Finally Fez the candidate least likely to get
a girlfriend gets a girlfriend. It figures that she’s a psycho.
Nothing quite equals the mud wrestling fantasy that Eric has
in the episode “Eric’s Panties”.

| Image
and Sound: |
It’s a good thing that this show
wasn’t show in the 70’s. Image quality is exceptionally good
with rich color and great clarity. The stereo sound quality
is also quite good making good use of the format.
|
| The
Extras: |
We get an overview in the third
season featurette. We also get introductions to a number of
episodes featuring the cast. It’s not a hotbed of insight
but they are occasionally funny.
|
| Commentary:
|
Six very
good commentary tracks featuring director David Trainer and
producer/ writer Patrick Kienlen. Sadly there are no commentary
tracks featuring the cast. The commentary tracks are pretty
good. For example, I had no clue that one of the sets is left
over from “Blossom” and was so old that eventually they had
to rebuild it because it was falling apart. --- |
| Final
Words: |
A great show in prime shape, “That
70’s Show” continues to be very funny. The extras are extremely
nice although I wish that the commentary tracks included the
cast.
