Review:

This was the silly season. Yes, it did get worse but this set the tone for the rest of the series run. "Voyage" started off as a mix of action-adventure and sci-fi with elements of spy melodramas that made it perfectly appealing to kids without insulting adult intelligence. Suddenly with season three I.Q.'s of the writers and producers took a sudden dive and stupidity reined in some of the worst episodes this side of the final season of "Lost in Space" or "Star Trek". I don't recall any comments that writer Harlan Ellison ever made about working on this show but I imagine he would dismiss it as another example of "the glass teat" in all its glory. ***

With episodes entitled "The Werewolf" and "The Day the World Ended" (which recycles footage from the theatrical film of the same name), "Voyage" began to look and sound increasingly cheap. The first season opener "Jonah and the Whale" used the sets from "Fantastic Voyage" to striking effect. By the time of the third season there wasn't much left to recycle from the Fox lot except for the stuff from "Lost in Space" and those had already been overused. ---

Image & Sound:

As with all the "Voyage" sets, the image quality is far from waterlogged. The show looks marvelous even if there is less brain power in these episodes. Audio sounds quite good as well. ---

Special Features:

None

Final Words:

A series that went from entertaining to imbecilic within a very short span of time, fans may want to avoid this voyage otherwise they might feel seasick after realizing that they wasted their hard earned dollars on a waterlogged show that was sinking fast.
