Review: |
Martial arts, a modern western and
a guy in his 50’s who can kick the butts of anyone. What more
can you ask for in a TV series? Cordell Walker (Chuck Norris)
and Jimmy Trivette (Clarence Gilyard Jr) fight crime the old
fashioned way; with cowboy hats, boots, guns and a bit of
kung fu thrown in for good measure. For some weird reason,
CBS/Paramount has chosen to work backward with the final season
being released first. Walker deals with a baby selling ring,
a property owner who uses muscle to get his tenants to move
out. Featuring episodes such as “Home of the Brave”, “Deadly
Situation”, “White Buffalo” and “The Avenging Angel” the ninth
(or eighth depending on how you count it…the first season
was only three episodes including the pilot), the series went
ot with a plenty of action. ***
Why is the final season being released
first? I’m not too clear on that. It can’t be to capitalize
on the momentum of the final season as the show ended four
years ago. Hopefully for fans of this series this set will
sell well as there were a total of 206 episodes produced.
A rarity today, the series was shot on location in Texas and,
as a result, features many local actors in speaking parts/walk
ons and lost of Texas landmarks from the Ft. Worth & Dallas
areas. ---

“Walker”
looks pretty spry for a guy his age and so does his series.
The show ended in 2001 so it’s not a surprise that the final
season looks really, really good on DVD. Crisp images, bright
vivid colors and nice, clear sound are a hallmark of this set.
Hopefully the other seasons will live up to this the final season
in terms of quality. |

Extras: |
Sadly,
no extras here. I would have expected a glimpse back at previous
seasons, characters that left the show, etc. The packaging,
however, seems pretty nice. ---

No commentary
tracks. Again, I’m surprised that Norris since (to my knowledge)
he was a co-owner of the series, didn’t want to do any commentary
tracks for the series. --- |

Walker returns to the small screen in the final season on DVD.
While many of these episodes have been rerunning on USA Network
you can finally watch them without commercial interruption.
Sadly, there are no extras and I’m perplexed as to why the final
season was released first. Perhaps it was because this season
didn’t need to be digitally restored or spruced up for release.
Either way fans will be delighted that this is finally seeing
release on DVD. |
