Running from 1972-1981, The Waltons was one of the
finest television dramas that ever aired. Set in a rural
environment in the 30s and 40s, the show follows a family
through various hardships, including the Great Depression
and the Second World War. ***
The show's seventh season aired from 1978-1979 and
consisted of 24 episodes, all of which are included in this
set. Episodes included are as follows: The Empty Nest (two-part
episode), The Calling, The Moonshiner, The Obsession, The
Changeling, The Portrait, The Captive, The Illusion. The
Beau, Day of Infamy, The Yearning, The Boosters, The Conscience,
The Obstacle, The Parting, The Burden, The Pin-Up, The Attack,
The Legacy, The Outsider, The Torch, The Talespin, and Founder's
Day. ***
Season 7 is arguably the best of the entire series.
It's here that the show begins transitioning from the hardships
of the depression to the difficulties brought on by another
conflict - World War II. The family is forced to undergo
numerous changes as the season progresses, both due to the
family growing up, and the difficulties that come with America's
involvement in another war. I won't spoil anything in the
review, though. ---
Image And Sound: The transfer quality is what you've
come to expect from earlier seasons. While the image and
the colors have faded due to the age of the source material,
Warner Bros. has done a pretty solid job cleaning up the
picture. If nothing else, the picture quality here beats
watching the show in syndication. Sound quality holds up
just as well, with the dialogue clear and easy to understand.
