Review:

You, Me and Dupree is another cookie cutter comedy with a few laughs to keep your interested. Molly (Kate Hudson) and Carl (Matt Dillon) are newlyweds getting ready to live happily ever after. Things don't work out according to plan when Carl's best friend Dupree ends up homeless and on the couch (naked sometimes) of the newly married couple. Although Dupree is meant to be spending his time job hunting he spends his time playing with the local neighborhood kids and within the first few days manages to burn down their living room during a wild sex romp with a mormon librarian. ****

Carl is close to unraveling with jealous thoughts of Molly and Dupree, lots of pressure from work, and even more pressure from his boss, his father-in-law (Michael Douglas). Dupree had no luck finding work due to unreasonable requests like having off Columbus Day. He did however have plenty of success causing a riff between Molly and Carl and endearing himself more to the family. Carl has to get some courage in the end to save his marriage and his friendship with Dupree.****

This comedy had its moments but overall I think it missed the mark. I am tired of watching the same Owen Wilson unable to grow up. He just takes it too far and makes it so ridiculous it's impossible to believe that someone who is that old, is that immature. It had a few funny parts, but Michael Douglas as the overbearing father-in-law was my favorite part of the movie and he was the one with the least amount of screen time.

Image and Sound:

This movie had no special effects except the brief house fire so nothing spectacular about the imagery. The picture was clear and it was good digital quality. The soundtrack was alright and it didn't overpower the dialogue so that is all that I care about. It had pretty good slapstick sound effects so that enhanced the overall movie.

Special Features:

The alternate ending was shorter but not as finalizing. What I did like about it though is that finally you got to see Neil's wife that was played by Amanda Detmer that I know best from Saving Silverman. There are several deleted scenes but for a comedy the movie was already running long and would have been unnecessary. The outtakes were pretty funny, it was just the stars clowning around. Kate Hudson, Matt Dillon, and Owen Wilson had good chemistry so that always makes it better. The spoof trailer killed me. It played the movie as a horror movie versus the comedy that it is supposed to be. It was complete with creepy music and Matt Dillon as Dupree. For me it was the highlight of the special features. "Dupree's Memoirs" was a scrapbook with what appeared to be pictures of Matt Dillon and Owen Wilson growing up together. Occasionally you can click on an icon and get some insight into the film from interviews with the directors or cast members. That was full of insight if you enjoyed the film.

Final Words:

Overall this was a cute movie but not one I will watch again anytime soon. There were a few laughs but they were too few and far between to make this a must see movie.
